Summary: We reflect on the suffering, humiliation, and sacrifice of Jesus Christ brought out in Matthew 27:26–31. Though Jesus was mocked with a scarlet robe and crown of thorns as a false king, He truly was—and is—the King. He willingly endured rejection, suffering, and crucifixion, giving His life because without Him we have no hope. Communion reminds us of the event that changed the world and stands at the foundation of the Christian faith. Through Christ, we are not left spiritually naked or hopeless, but can be clothed in salvation, righteousness, and humility. As 1 Peter 2:9 reminds us, we are called to be a chosen people and a royal priesthood, and as it says in Revelations; one day we will exchange this temporary robe of flesh for an eternal robe in His presence.
