Summary: Psalm 103:13 "Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him." There are 2 things that a father the pities his children will do; teach and correct. Most fathers have an opportunity to influence at least 2 generations. God is counting on Christian fathers to teach, so that following generations have understanding of Him. "Whom the Lord loveth he correcteth". A father who delights in his child will correct them. This correction is most effective when done early, or "while there is hope". The rod is the Scriptural solution for a child to "deliver his soul from hell". A child properly corrected will bring rest and delight their parents.
