Summary: Acedia, also known as the “noon day devil,” is a state of spiritual apathy where middle-aged people become disengaged from their First Love because of a variety of factors including the cares of the world, unmet expectations from their youth, and reaching a point where they have achieved great goals and wonder what is next to live for. Middle-aged people are uniquely vulnerable to attack by the devil because they have wandered away from their relationship with the Lord. Only when one identifies the “noon-day devil” in their life, makes significant changes, and draw nigh to God will they be victorious.
